Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR) is a scientific parameter for the measurement of similarity of two signals.
PSNR stands for Peak Signal to Noise Ratio. PSNR is a scientific parameter often used for the evaluation of various algorithms.
PSNR saw for image processing domain. Various image processing applications are as follows:
- Image Denoising
- Image Steganography
- Image Enhancements
- Image Watermarking etc.

Meaning of Peak Signal and Noise
Here Peak Signal means a maximum possible value of the signal and Noise is the difference between signals. The difference between signals is usually considered as noises.
As per its full form, PSNR is the ratio of the peak value of the matrix and noise which is the difference of the matrices which is being compared.
Unit of PSNR?
PSNR is calculated in decibals(dBs), because it is a unitless parameter.
PSNR should be High or Low?
PSNR should be higher for most of the image processing researchs.
PSNR is HIGHER IS BETTER
How to improve PSNR of image?
To improve the PSNR for image, researcher should keep in mind to keep the similarity of output image to input image as high as possible.
In other words, the difference between output processed image and input image should be low.
